The “Helsinki Association” human rights non-governmental organisation (HAHR) was registered in the Ministry of Justice of Armenia in April 1997. The Association is committed to upholding the terms and conditions set forth in the 1975 Helsinki Agreement, and in other human rights international treaties and agreements which Armenia is a member to. In November 2004, the Association was granted full membership in the International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights, it is the Armenian coordinator of the South Caucasus Network of Human Rights Organizations and a member to the Civic Solidarity Platform (CSP). The main objectives of the organization are the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms, the implementation of freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of association and assembly and the responsibilities of the international treaties and agreements by the Republic of Armenia to guarantee fundamental human rights for its citizens. This is done through practical protection of the infringed violation of rights of victims, monitoring of court trials, penitentiaries, psychological hospitals, the army, and pro bono legal advice. HAHR has an office in Yerevan, a branch office in Vanadzor and a representation in Gyumri.
