Building joint archives in Georgia and Abkhazia: In the scope of a dialogue project ofConciliation Resources, swisspeace co-organized a meeting on cultural heritage exchange and dealing with the past archives in a contested context in February in Switzerland with civil society representatives from Georgia and Abkhazia who are building two parallel archives related to the 1992/93 Georgian/ Abkhaz armed conflict.
Research about DwP in Cambodia and Côte d’Ivoire: PhDfellowJulie Bernathparticipated at the ISA’s annual conference in Atlanta, where she talked about victims’ participation and resistance at the Khmer Rouge Tribunal. Post-Doc fellow Adou Djanéwill present his research on Côte d’Ivoire at aworkshop on “Problematizing Reconciliation in Local Contexts and the Role of the International Community” organized in The Hague.
Roundtable "Switzerland as a safe haven for archives at risk? ": In collaboration with the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs and the Swiss Federal Archives, swisspeace will organize a roundtable on 2 June 2016 in Bern with the aim to convene interested experts from public and private institutions to discuss innovative ways for Switzerland to serve as a “safe haven” for archives at risk. Two new publications on conflict transformation and resistance to DwP:Elisabeth Baumgartner,Sidonia Gabrieland Briony Jones have recently published theEssential “A Transformative Approach to Dealing with the Past”. Security sector and intelligence archives in Colombia: Elisabeth Baumgartnerparticipated in the seminar on "Protection, Non-Destruction and Declassification of Security Sector and Intelligence Archives" in March 2016 in Colombia organized by Open Society Justice Initiativeand ICTJ. She gave an input on the topic of access to security sector and intelligence archives by transitional justice mechanisms.
Chairing the Section on Transitional Justice at the ECPR General Conference: PhD fellowJulie Bernath and affiliated researcherBriony Jones will co-chair a section on “Transitional Justice and Other Fields: The Intersection of Concepts, Theories and Empirics” at the ECPR General Conferencefrom 7-10 September 2016 at the Charles University in Prague.
