Parliamentary Elections 2017 and LGBTI Issues
Armenia went to the polls this month to elect a new parliament. Prior to the April 2 elections, four out of the 9 parties and blocs running responded to a question about homosexuals’ rights, stating that homosexuals should have the same rights as other citizens in Armenia. PINK Armenia organized a community meeting to discuss the elections and their implications for LGBTI citizens, and published a PSA about the importance of protecting LGBTI citizens’ rights and ensuring their involvement in the democratic process. Watch the PSA, “Everyone’s vote is important”,here.
Launching our New Training Website, “Inqnus”
PINK Armenia is very excited to announce the launch of our new training website, “Inqnus,” (meaning “self-learning” in Armenian). With “Inqnus,” participants from all across Armenia are able to participate in live trainings and workshops on LGBTI-related topics with trained professionals, using the online webinar platform. Though PINK Armenia has worked to counter misinformation about LGBTI people with trainings and educational workshops in the past, our evaluations with participants have shown that the stigma surrounding LGBT topics prevents many potential participants from joining in person. To solve this problem, we decided to move our trainings online. Our launch event for “Inqnus” took place on April 5, and was attended by our local and international partners. Also in attendance was H.E. Mr. Jos Douma, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Georgia and Armenia, who gave the event’s opening remarks. “Inqnus” is implemented as part of the project, “Environment of Dialogue through Education and Support,” funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the Republic of Georgia. Our first “Inqnus” training on human sexuality is already underway. To learn more about the site and our upcoming trainings, visit inqnus.pinkarmenia.org.
Three Grants for LGBTI Projects in Armenia
Through the Solidarity Network for LGBTI people in Armenia and Georgia, coordinated by the Heinrich Boell Foundation South Caucasus Regional Office and funded by the European Union, three new grant schemes are being implemented in Armenia, which give priority to projects that are local, that increase the positive visibility of LGBTI people, that are to be implemented in the provinces of Armenia, and that empower LGBTI people. Three local organizations have already received grants to implement such projects. The Human Rights Common Platform has already held an activism workshop for LBT women, Armenian Progressive Youth is organizing a workshop for LGBTI people on capacity-building and social entrepreneurship, and Hope Corps International will focus on community building and empowerment in the city of Dilijan. A micro grant scheme is also underway through PINK’s local partner Society Without Violence, for projects that focus on the creation of positive visibility for LGBTI people and issues in Armenia. Finally, PINK announced a call for proposals for the production of three public service announcements, which will highlight on the main issues faced by LGBTI persons in Armenia.

On April 30, the film was also viewed at The 519 in Toronto, Canada. Watch the trailer for “Listen To Me” here.
