Project Manager, Central African Republic (two posts)
- Full-time 5 days per week
- Two fixed term contracts, one from February 2018 until 17 June 2020, the second from 1 June 2019 until 31 May 2022.
- Bangui, Central African Republic
- Salary: $2,730 gross per month (inclusive of 24% income tax) plus 9% employer pension contribution and health insurance.

We are seeking two experienced Project Managers to manage our two new projects in CAR. One is working to promote youth participation in peacebuilding, implemented in partnership with WarChild UK and funded by UN Peacebuilding Fund. The second is an innovative consortium project implemented with the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue and International Crisis Group and research partners, funded by DFID, as part of UK Aid Connect The project will work with local partners and communities, to build relationships between conflict affected community and unblock sticking points, to generate learnings that could be applied to work on a larger scale.
The Project Manager is responsible for developing and managing one of our peace building and conflict resolution projects in the Central African Republic.The post holder is responsible for overseeing the full project cycle, including design, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, narrative and financial reporting. They travel frequently acting as a resource to partner organisations and representing the programme in meetings with a range of interlocutors in the field. The post-holder contributes to strategic development, implementation and resourcing of the East and Central Africa programme as a whole, and manages consultants. The post is based in the Central African Republic and will involve frequent travel to the provinces of CAR in which the projects are operating.
Essential knowledge, skills and experience
- Substantial experience of project management including project planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation and narrative and financial reporting.
- Practical experience of designing and implementing conflict resolution and peacebuilding interventions, including experience of working with international, national and local partner organisations in conditions of current or recent conflict.
- Experience of and sensitivity to communicating with multicultural and diverse audiences (including senior government officials, politicians, opposition groups, national and local NGOs and conflict-affected communities).
- Good knowledge of the conflicts in CAR, and of the wider contextual understanding of social, political and economic dynamics in the country.
- Experience of planning, running, and facilitating effective meetings and workshops.
- Demonstrable experience of preparing, managing and monitoring budgets, local partners’ activities and of financial and narrative reporting to donors.
- Experience of developing new project ideas, building relationships with donors and writing proposals and budgets to secure new funds.
- Appreciation of confidentiality, political sensitivity and the complexities of working in a situation of unresolved conflict or political transition.
- Excellent spoken and written English and French.
- Post-graduate study or equivalent by experience in conflict resolution, international relations, development studies, international humanitarian law, gender, peace and security or other related fields.
- Willingness to work irregular hours on occasions and to undertake frequent travel.
- Experience of working in a conflict-affected area, and experience of hostile environment training or willingness to undertake hostile environment training.
- Current valid permit to work in the Central African Republic.
Desirable knowledge, skills and experience
- Spoken or written Sango.
