Overview
This is an opportune time to join the Russia Eurasia Programme which is at the forefront of the international debate. As an established authority on the international relations of the Russian Federation, you will conduct innovative and rigorous research and analysis on key topics.
As a strong fundraiser with a track-record of successful fundraising partnerships and networks, you will generate funding for your own research initiatives and future projects. We would like to offer an initial contract of 12 months with the possibility of extension based on fundraising capacity and quality output.

Responsibilities
Research and Project Management
You will produce new ideas and identify subjects and questions to be investigated that will impact on policy toward Russia. You will carry out research work independently and in collaboration with other Institute-based Chatham House researchers and Associate Fellows. Other responsibilities include:

Producing high quality policy-relevant research, for publication by the Programme – including reports, research papers, op-eds, expert comments, etc. as appropriate.

Assisting in the development of and bringing new ideas to Russia and Eurasia Programme strategy, ensuring your own work aligns with the broader objectives of the Programme, we have collectively set out.

Establishing and running creative research projects on own areas of expertise, in conjunction with other Programme staff, and ensuring achievement of deliverables.

Engaging in collective research initiatives with fellow colleagues and external organizations. Where appropriate, provide project management, ownership and lead the project team.

Working with other staff to identify and facilitate roundtables and other policy-relevant events.

Participation and engagement in Chatham House and external roundtables, conferences and policy fora, consultations and other important meetings as relevant.

Establishing and maintaining networks and links with key individuals, businesses, and institutions around the world working on Russia.
Communications/Publishing
Responsible for growing and promoting Russian policy-related research through presentations, publications and the media (including new social media) including:

Responding to media enquiries sensitively and appropriately as an authoritative commentator on Russia. Convey complex information clearly and concisely to different audiences in oral and written formats, tailoring content and approach accordingly.

Ensure quality control by editing colleagues’ texts, commenting on texts, setting up advisory groups and/or peer review processes, as appropriate, for research activities.

Promoting the research area and our work on it as widely as possible.

Publicising research project activity and emphasizing its policy relevance.

Meeting and briefing visitors, including formal and informal presentations.

International travel to conferences to present research and ideas and represent the Programme and the Institute, as appropriate.
Fundraising
You will share responsibility with the Programme Head and other staff for ensuring the Programme meets its financial requirements by:

Identifying and pursuing research funding (events and publications) in the Russia area, taking principal fundraising responsibility for personal projects, drawing on the advice of the team and other experts.

Preparation and submission of applications to funders and sponsors for personal research projects.

Maintaining relationships with existing core Programme supporters over Russia related work, involving them in relevant meetings and on occasion, where appropriate, providing tailored briefings.
Budget Accounts/Finance
Responsible for the oversight of own research project finances and accountable for performance against budget.
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications, Experience and Knowledge

Strong experience within this field of study as well as consistent record of successfully leading the delivery of substantial research outputs.

Previous experience in a similar role (typically a minimum of three years experience or more).

A masters degree or above in a relevant discipline.

Evidence of a growing international reputation for research excellence.

Fluency in English and Russian.
