Visegrad+ Grants support projects which contribute to the democratization and transformation processes in selected countries and regions, especially non-EU member states in the Western Balkans and the Eastern Partnership countries. Projects applying for Visegrad+ Grants may be co-financed by the government of the Netherlands.

In 2017, the CIVICUS Board of Directors determined to hold ICSW 2019 in the Balkans and Black Sea region. Based on a set of initial criteria relating to civic space, income levels, and operational factors, the following countries were selected as potential hosts: Albania, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Georgia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia and Ukraine. We are now looking for an outstanding local partner to join us in hosting ICSW (April-June 2019).

The Romanian NGDO Platform – FOND is launching a Call for Applications for the Mobility Fund for CSOs from the European Region, implemented with the financial support of CSO Partnership for Development Effectiveness – CPDE. 

In the framework of the grant contract with the European Commission, the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum Secretariat is launching the Call for Proposals under the 2018 re-granting scheme in order to support projects of current and former EaP CSF members with a regional dimension that willcontribute to achieving the mission and objectives of the EaP CSF.

A quarter of a century after it began, the democratic transformation of Central and Eastern Europe has ground to a halt. From within, the region is challenged by ruthless power politics, weak institutions, beleaguered civil society and media, reform fatigue, and a return of traditional nationalism and phobias. Europe and the West broadly, once the desired endpoint of the region’s transformation, have lost their attractiveness; their current weakness opens a vacuum that is filled with powerful counter-narratives. Fanning these is Russia, which has reinserted itself into the entire region, which it once ruled and seems determined to control once again. The combined effect of these internal and external developments is that the entire Eastern half of Europe is at risk of reversing democracy, forfeiting prosperity achieved, and returning to the instability and insecurity that has wrecked this region for centuries. What is at stake, in short, is the grand vision of a Europe whole, free and at peace. Given these mounting challenges, regional and Western debates urgently need fresh thinking. For this reason, The German Marshall Fund of the United States, through its Black Sea Trust for Regional Cooperation, is launching a new fellowship program for next-generation policy experts and analysts from Central and Eastern Europe.
