LOCATION: The location will be determined by the home country of the successful candidate (Yerevan or Tbilisi).
JOB DESCRIPTION: This position is part of the WV South Caucasus (WVSC) Communications function. The strategic priorities of Communications are: reputation and influence, public/ community connections and staff engagement.
The primary purpose of this role is to support the Communications department to achieve objectives set out in the Communications and National strategies through developing, disseminating and managing information and resources for effective donor and public engagement; networking with key internal and external groups; strategically working with national and international media; identifying and mitigating media risks; contributing to internal communications; and launching and carrying out timely and effective communications responses to humanitarian emergencies.
South Caucasus Communications Coordinator will also lead external communications on a range of development and advocacy issues and will direct, facilitate and deliver content, using platforms and channels to reach diverse audiences.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Public-Community Connections: Evidence-Based Content for Resource Generation:
- Ensure outcome-focused quality production of visual and written content for defined donor segments and audiences reflecting programme objectives and evidence of impact;
- Ensure that the sponsorship resources are passing quality check; advise and build capacity upon need; facilitate smooth execution of new sponsorship features in field level;
- Support the communication with sponsors through contributing to targeted materials; support improving the dialogue between the sponsor and the community;
- Contribute to quality and programme aligned website/ online platforms updates posted regularly; find innovative methods to attract more visitors to online channels;
- Ensure information shared with public on programme activities is bilingual;
- Host/ support the partnership resource gathering visits/ media;
- Provide communications support during the organization of public events initiated by Area Development Programs (ADPs) and projects;
- Understand the concept of the communications for development; facilitate and train children/ youth/ community people based on programmatic needs;
- Be trained on emergency communications; ensure effective and rapid provision of disaster response content for effective internal communications and marketing appeals that mobilise support during emergencies.
Brand Awareness and Reputation: Organizational Positioning in Mainstream and Social Media to Mobilize Publics for Social and Policy Change:
- Co-facilitate the development of Brand Awareness and Reputation strategy;
- Increase WV visibility locally and internationally (upon specific need); contribute to media outreach plan results in increased positive coverage of WV's work in local and national media outlets;
- Develop and maintain professional contacts and relationships with key print, radio and TV media, and liaise upon necessity;
- Ensure the staff is trained and refreshed annually as spokesperson per the Programme office; archive and digitize media interactions from WV spokespersons;
- Ensure WV staff is oriented on media relations policy and protocol;
- Engage proactively in Advocacy campaigns related to technical programs' implementation;
- Ensure social media content and engagement plan results in increased social community linked to WV, endorsing WV, and active in child wellbeing issues based discussion on WV-managed digital platforms;
- Ensure the external communication resources use correct WV identity;
- Provide communications support reflected in applicable local, regional and global advocacy campaigns;
- Have an input in developing advocacy messages and contribute to planning advocacy activities;
- Support grants acquisition and management with compelling visibility plans.
Marketing Relations:
- Provide communications support in positioning the organization and the local entities in local fundraising market through media channels;
- Participate in the development of key messages to be used in media and PR materials related to marketing initiatives;
- Identify, develop and disseminate communications materials for marketing initiatives through various media channels.
Staff Engagement: Internal Communications to Mobilise Staff for Strategy, Ministry Execution and Impact:
- Contribute to internal communications plan development;
- Ensure increase in access and readership of internal communications channels;
- Feature national programming initiatives in regional and global communication platforms;
- Ensure community voice content is used in internal communications platforms.
Other Responsibilities:
- Be aware and prepared to implement National Office Humanitarian and Emergency Affairs (HEA) plan;
- Participate in regular meetings as required;
- Perform other relevant tasks assigned by the SC Communications Director;
- Attend and participate in regular staff and devotional meetings.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: The following knowledge, skills, and abilities may have been acquired through a combination of formal schooling, self-education, prior experience, or on-the-job training:
- Degree in Linguistics, Journalism or Communications;
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills in English language;
- Story writing, photography and videography skills, including video editing skills;
- Fluency in computer programs: MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
- Solid knowledge in media relations, understanding of mass media developments in the country;
- Knowledge of development work; understanding of reasons of poverty;
- Willingness to work long hours when required;
- Self-motivated, innovative person able to work under pressure;
- Ability to deal with information flow that needs fast processing;
- Awareness of the major trends and processes within WV South Caucasus and WV International;
- Readiness for internal and external travels for the minimum 30 percent of working time;
- Experience in communications with international NGOs;
- At least 2 years of experience in journalism/ communications/ media.
