The Eastern partnership Civil Society Forum (EaP CSF) has welcomed the conclusion of the negotiations on the new EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement on 28 February in Brussels. Members of the Steering Committee expressed their hope that the signature of the agreement will contribute to closer EU-Armenia cooperation in the near future, but at the same time expressed their concern that the negotiations were conducted without the involvement of the EaP CSF Armenian National Platform and other civil society actors.
“The lack of knowledge among the population about the details of the agreement, especially in light of the active propaganda against the deepening of Armenia’s cooperation with the EU and against European values in general, presents serious risks for the future implementation of the Agreement,” said Boris Navasardian, EaP CSF country facilitator for the Armenian National Platform.
The Steering Committee has therefore called on the Armenian authorities and EU institutions to consider a more coherent approach towards a meaningful participation of Armenian civil society in all dimensions of EU-Armenia relations.
