Building on the tradition of free inquiry, integrity, scholarship and service to society, the American University of Armenia (AUA) is planning a conference titled “Empowerment of Girls and Women in Armenia.” The goal of this conference is to determine the scope and consequences of gender-based discrimination in Armenia, and ways in which the AUA may facilitate female empowerment through academic participation. Knowledge gleaned from this conference will inform the development of a degree program and a women’s empowerment center at the University.
Individuals representing international and Armenian organizations and universities (e.g., academic, non-academic, governmental, non-governmental, business, political, cultural, social, etc.) are encouraged to submit presentation abstracts to address one or a combination of the following:
1. Examples of successful national/international gender and women’s studies programs which include academic, and/or research, and/or policy, and/or services components; challenges they face in the development and maintenance of such programs; and the proven/projected impact of such activities on society.
2. Immediate and long-lasting impacts of female risk factors on the lives of girls, women and society.
3. Examples of national and international evidence-based approaches/programs/practices/policies which have the potential for enhancing female empowerment in family and society; challenges in their implementation; and evidence-based methodologies for overcoming implementation challenges.
This two-day conference from April 21-22, 2017 will feature international plenary speakers, presentation panels, and a celebration of Armenia women across time, with food, music, dance and art.
Those interested in presenting/participating at this conference, as well as those who would be interested in attending are invited to go to the website at EGWA2017.aua.am for more details.
