Preamble:
The World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. On average, WFP reaches more than 80 million people with food assistance in 75 countries each year.
WFP has been present in Armenia since late 1993. WFP/Armenia is currently seeking Volunteers to support the Country Office (CO), in the framework of WFP Voluntary Assistance Programme, with the recent scaled-up programme-related activities.
Brief Project Description:
The WFP School Feeding Project in Armenia began in 2010 providing school meals in the most food insecure areas, gradually increasing the coverage throughout all provinces in Armenia to support the Government of Armenia in mitigating the severe economic and social impacts of the global financial crisis. Beginning from the 2014-2015 school year, the Government has taken over school feeding in three provinces – Ararat, Vayots Dzor, and Syunik – reaching out to all 21,500 primary school children in those provinces. As of 2016, WFP continues to support school feeding for 60,000 primary school students, accounting for approximately 65 percent of schools in the remaining 7 provinces.
In Armenia, school feeding has two objectives:
1. To support the food security and education of children through the provision of school meals, and 2. To support the Government of Armenia in developing and operationalizing a sustainable national school feeding programme embedded in national policies and budgets.

Description of tasks:
Under the overall guidance of the Head of Programme and the direct supervision of the Programme Policy Officer(s), the WFP Voluntary Assistants will perform the following:
- Translate and proofread documents from English into Armenian and vice versa;
- Support the coordination of the five SABER (Systems Approach for Better Education Results) working groups;
- Produce minutes after each SABER group meeting and other secretarial type of work;
- Support the CO with organizing SABER2 workshop scheduled for the end of January;
- Perform any other tasks as required by the supervisor.
Requirements:
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Power Point, particularly in Excel);
- Fluent in both oral and written communication in English and Armenian;
- Good analytical skills;
- Ability to write in a concise and effective way;
- Having completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in Communications/PR, Journalism, International Affairs, Social Sciences or other area relevant to international development would be an asset;
- Previous experience in the development / humanitarian sector would be an asset.
Terms and Conditions of WFP Voluntary Assistance Programme:
WFP Volunteers are individuals who donate their services to the Programme and contribute to the objectives of the Programme. They have no relationship to the United Nations Volunteer (UNV), nor to the WFP Intern Programme. There is no compensation for such volunteer services, however the Programme provides:
- Insurance for service-incurred accident/illness/death;
- Travel expenses should travel be required;
- Coverage under the WFP war risks/malicious acts policy.
