Two-Day Workshop with Local Working Group in Teghut, Armenia
On 31 May–1 June 2016, a workshop was conducted on advocacy campaign planning for members of the Teghut Local Working Group (LWG) in Armenia. The LWGs are composed of representatives of local NGOs, Rural Women's Councils (established by CENN) and community members from mining effected regions.
The main subject of the training was how to identify the problem and set the goals of an advocacy campaign, define the beneficiaries and target audience, and identify the supporters and opponents of the campaign. Participants were shown advocacy techniques and strategies for the problem selected at the beginning of the session. The LWG members were also taught how to develop their message in order to reach supporters and possible donors. Audio-visual materials and games were an integral part of the training, which helped the participants better understand the material and identify their strengths and weaknesses.
The aim of the workshop was to enhance the knowledge and capability of the LWG to start an advocacy campaign on their selected topic.
The training in Armenia was organised by Green Lane NGO, within CENN’s regional project, Promoting Environmental and Social Accountability in the Mining Sector in the Caucasus. The goal of the project is to reduce poverty, enhance environmental education and awareness, enhance environmental and social security related to mining activities, and foster sustainable rural development.
The project is being implemented with the financial support of the German fund, Bread for the World.
