Climathon - 24h global climate hackathon
The Sustainable Energy Development Fund with Yerevan municipality are pleased to invite you to the Climathon global climate change hackathon on October 27.
Yerevan participates to the Climathon mouvement for the 1st time, among 230 other cities from 43 countries. Initiated by Climate-KIC and EU, Climathon brings together the challenges of the world’s cities with the people who have the passion and ability to solve them.
Climathon attracts innovators, entrepreneurs, students and young professionals, start-ups, big thinkers, technical experts & app developers to create innovative solutions to the city climate challenge.
What is Climathon?
Climathon is a global 24-hour climate change hackathon which will take place simultaneously in major cities around the world on 27 October 2017. Each city sets its own local climate challenge that reflects what affects their urban life the most. Participants then tackle the set challenge for a full 24-hours, before pitching their ideas in front of relevant local stakeholders. These ideas can develop into tangible sustainable solutions and businesses that address city climate challenges across the globe.
Yerevan Challenge: Protect Yerevan from Air Pollution!
According to the "Yerevan City Sustainable Energy Action Plan" (SEAP), the residential sector (households, public institutions) and municipal and private transport emit the largest proportion of CO2 in the city, for 80% of the total emissions (more than 1.3mln tCO2 annually). This is primarily due to the lack of new energy efficient technology implementations, and the low economic conditions of households. The challenge include developing innovative solutions and optimizing methods (economically accessible) to reduce carbon emissions in the city. More details here.
