New Grants Established to Help Investigative Journalists Cover Environmental Crime
GRID-Arendal and SKUP (Stiftelsen for en Kritisk og Undersøkende Presse) are pleased to announce two grants of NOK 25,000 each to support investigative journalists working on stories about global organized environmental crime.
The award will be given out in in 2016 and will focus on five areas: illegal logging, fisheries, mining, toxic waste trafficking and dumping, and poaching and trade in wildlife.
The grants will help investigative journalists cover the necessary costs of document retrieval, travel to develop stories and interview sources, and other investigation-related expenses.
Applications should reflect some preliminary research, demonstrate why the case is important and include background information on potential sources. It should also indicate the format for the stories – print, radio, television, photography, etc. -- and how social media will be used for dissemination. Applications must include a CV, two letters of recommendation and examples of previous work.
Applications should be forwarded to Valentin Emelin, the Head of Environmental Crime Program at GRID-Arendal ([email protected]) by November 1, 2015. The winner will be announced on Christmas Eve on the GRID-Arendal and SKUP websites.
