Term: Full-time

Job Purpose
Note: We would like to note that this is a new position in a growing global organization, providing the Mentor the opportunity to gain valuable management and instructional leadership experience.
Training and Development Mentors will manage and develop Fellows during Summer Institute, as well as the 2-year Leadership Development Program, inspiring them to become lifelong advocates for expanded educational opportunities for all children in Armenia.
Each Mentor will manage a cohort of 15-20 Fellows to guide them towards establishing ambitious and inspiring visions and goals for their students, planning purposeful lessons, and managing classrooms successfully to increase student academic and personal achievement.
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Facilitate sessions focused on the Teaching As Leadership framework (www.teachingasleadership.org), as well as various other teacher professional development areas
- Manage a group of 15-20 Fellows and lead them to achieve ambitious student outcomes by observing their classrooms, guiding them through short-term and long-term planning process, problem solving and facilitating in reflective impact-driven conversations
- Establish and maintain a strong culture of excellence focused on organization’s vision
- Build authentic relationships to connect with Fellows’ diverse styles, strengths and needs. Engage in potentially difficult conversations with Fellows and 1-on-1 conversations
- Mentor Fellows to stay centered on the long-term vision for student impact and operate with the most important mindsets to be great leaders
- Mentor Fellows to develop strong and productive relationships with school administration, teachers, parents, community members and potential partners
- Lead and mentor Fellows to gain the insight and commitment to transition into our Alumni movement as leaders continuing to address educational disadvantage
- Build strong relationships and work with school leaders, district leaders, and university partners.
- Own and support broader regional and organizational priorities and support other departments on achieving organizational goals as needed
Other Information:
- Along with other Institute staff, staying at Summer Institute for 5 weeks will be required
- Along with other Institute staff, working late nights and weekends will be required as needed throughout Summer Institute
- Travel and stay throughout regional Armenia will be required
- Support on a variety of subject areas not limited to your own teaching and subject-knowledge experience will be required
Required Qualifications:
- Deep commitment to Teach For Armenia’s mission and core values
- A deep understanding of pedagogical theory and practice
- Experience achieving ambitious outcomes as a classroom teacher for at least 3 years
- Excellent Armenian & English speaking and writing skills
- Great team skills, while ability to work under own initiative to meet ambitious results
- Exceptional relationship-building skills; the ability to establish effective working relationships with people of all working styles, backgrounds, experience, etc.
- Profound communications skills, including presentation skills, and the ability to communicate the mission effectively
- Strong analytical skills for assessing progress, tracking tasks and following through on the execution of plans
- Deep critical thinking skills to analyze and reflect on personal progress and challenges, taking ownership of self-development and continuing professional development
- Inspiration, commitment and positive attitude towards individual and organizational goals
- Willingness to travel, work on some weekends, and other times as needed
About Summer Institute:
Summer Institute is a rigorous pre-Fellowship five-week training immersion program that takes place throughout the whole month of July and prepares Fellows for their teaching assignment at their placement schools. Fellows will study and practice the fundamentals of teaching to be prepared for all elements of classroom instruction. Fellows will be required to teach specifically designed summer school classes to facilitate the most conducive learning process for their students.
Summer Institute will be based in one of our target regions. Fellows will live in basic dormitories and teach in classrooms at the school.
About 2-Year Leadership Development Program:
In the two years our Fellows commit to Teach For Armenia, we provide ongoing coaching support and professional development, helping our Fellows to further develop as leaders within the classroom and later join our alumni movement, fostering positive changes for Armenia in educational, social, and entrepreneurial areas.
We also enroll our Fellows in a teacher certification program to complement the extensive continuing education Fellows receive and cover all the necessary fees.
