Overview
Today’s leaders must be prepared to anticipate, analyze and address complex challenges involving multiple stakeholders as efficiently and effectively as possible. They need a special set of skills and capacities that will enable them to put effective leadership into practice. Navigating through the tensions and ambiguities that characterize today’s workplace demands an adaptive mindset and solid leadership decision making skills. The goal of this leading-edge Leadership Master Course is to empower senior- and mid-level female managers and leaders in their pursuit of dynamic and thoughtful leadership, career advancement and self-fulfilment. Critical skills in self-leadership will be developed in confronting difficulties and taking decisions across a wide range of contexts and circumstances.
Conducted in English, the course serves a culturally diverse audience. Methods used are grounded in theory (e.g., Otto Scharmer, MIT; Robert Kegan, Ronald Heifetz and Kurt Fischer, Harvard University) yet are thoroughly experiential and culture-neutral. The course is gender-neutral and takes place in a generative space exclusively for women. The focus is on two fundamental aspects of effective leadership: Firstly, participants are taught how to identify and integrate their individual hidden patterns and reactive tendencies underlying their unconscious and automatic biases and assumptions. These limitations tend to hamper the success and positive impact of their goals and achievements. Secondly, from this vantage point, adaptive skills in leadership decision-making are built and strengthened.
This training consists of several integrated parts:
- A tailored online assessment that focuses on Leadership Decision Making Skills (LDMA) prior to the on-site course.
- A personalized debrief (online) with the trainers and a joint elaboration of learning and development goals and next steps.
- A 5-day on-site intensive course on
- overcoming limitations inherent in the job linked to competence, perception, gender or culture
- furthering skills and capacities that enable skillful leadership decision making processes
- strengthening the ability to take, seek and coordinate perspectives, contextual thinking, and complexity management
- turning reactive tendencies into creative ones
- A personalized learning & development road map and coaching session (online) after the course.
Desired impact
Trainers will help each participant to build her ability to identify and transform major reactive patterns and tendencies and to generate clarity and calm, giving rise to a profound sense of self. Participants will learn how to identify, consider, seek and coordinate a variety of perspectives, and work with contextual thinking and complexity management. They will strengthen their skills in leading people, decision making, reducing reactive tendencies and enabling themselves to thrive in the workplace. Through state-of-the-art tools and greater self-awareness, participants will be better equipped to tackle leadership challenges with ease and confidence. Participants will be part of a growing community of practitioners and a peer support network among UN and international professionals.
Lectica: The LDMA
Trainers work with the Lectica Decision Making Assessment (LDMA), a leading-edge measurement instrument that accurately assesses decision-making skills along six dimensions: (1) cognitive complexity, (2) perspective taking, seeking, and coordination, (3) collaborative capacity, (4) contextual thinking, (5) decision-making process, and (6) coherence. The online assessment will be tailored to the managerial setting and responsibilities of each participant, who will analyze, from different angles, a common dilemma in the workplace involving conflicting interests. The end result is a customized report that, combined with reflections and a debriefing, is expected to lead to individualized learning practices to bridge the complexity gap. Assessment results and identified training needs will form part of the course curricula.
